The Old Testament
If we look back into history we find that Christ taught in the oral
tradition. He used as the bases for his teachings what we now call,
the Septuagint Greek, Old Testament writings or LXX.
Though he sometimes quoted directly from the Hebrew. Most of his
ministry addressed the Greek speaking Jews and  then later the Gentiles. It' s important to note that Greek was the language of commerce, before
during,  and after Christ's Galilaen ministry. We find that most of Christ's
New Testament teachings and quotes come directly from the Septuagint
OT text.
Even the order of appearance of the Old Testament books found in our modern Bibles, comes from the Septuagint index of writings, not the
Hebrew. The chart below shows the Hebrew  Bible as opposed to the
Christian Bible.

The Septuagint Greek translation is believed to have been done during a period covering from 285 through 247 BC by seventy or seventy-two
Jewish scholars at Alexandria, Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus.

Our modern Bibles however, are based on translations from the Hebrew
text not the Septuagint while still keeping the Septuagint book index.

I cover this brief history because it is important for people trying to
understand the New Testament and the Christian movement.
Further, if we do not have a clear understanding of the Old Testament
teachings and their origins, we will never fully grasp the New Testament
and the intent of Christ's teachings with respect to the father.

The Old Testament is not only the chronological history, but the prophetic
writings that Christ eludes to in his teachings. When Christ utters his
final words "It is finished" He is referring to the fact that all of the Old
Testament prophecies have been fulfilled.

In Matthew 2:46. Where it states, " And about the ninth hour Jesus cried
with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My
God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?", Christ is actually telling
the Rabbin (Rabbi) who were witnesses, that the prophecies have been
fulfilled. He is telling them to remember Psalm 22.

God never intended that we be left in the dark. Ignorance of his plan is no
excuse. Jewish tradition teaches that the sacred books shall be passed
on studied and learned. Why don't Christians follow these same concepts?

The Bible is the most published book in the world, yet you would
be hard pressed to find that even 10% of Christians have ever read the
whole Bible, and certainly not the Old Testament. It would seem that
most Christians would rather have someone tell them what it says and
interpret it for them, rather than read it and interpret for themselves.
Your whole "Armer of God" is the understanding of Scripture. It is
through this knowledge that we can identify those who would preach
falls doctrine from those who do not.

The general excuse that I hear most, is that the Bible is to hard to
understand. They say "I don't know what the words mean". Yet when
I ask if they own a Strong's concordance or any sort of English to Greek
and Hebrew dictionary, they say "no". I can think of as many as thirty
such dictionaries that fall into an equitable price range of affordability.
Some are very good some mediocre but all help in understanding the
Scripture.

This site will present a list of books that I have found to be helpful for
many Christians and non Christians alike. They are readily available
and reasonably priced.
